Relative Space at 2 Bond, now... open!
The second installment in the Relative Space Lecture Series featured NY based architect Matthais Hollwich of the firm HWKN, who is also the co-founder of Architizer. Matthais spoke about organic architecture to a full house of peers, friends & family. He & Mark Kushner developed Architizer, a networking site for projects, architects, fans, & design industry insiders. The team at Architizer partnered up with Relative Space for the event, along with returning co-sponsor Azure Magazine. After the lecture we announced the winning design in a scholarship competition that came from another aspect of our network, Pratt Institute.
A Bond Street compatriot, Scott Vandervoort; is the founder of Lift New York, the husband & co-designer of Bond Street Chocolate, and a professor of Industrial Design at Pratt. His student's semester project was entitled, "Animal Abstractions" & materials for the students models were provided by Relative Space. The design process for their semester was to create series of iterations, bringing an animals essence down to a few graceful moves, and to produce a polished final model. Those models were the subject of a blind vote during our event, and the winner was announced after Matthais spoke.
The selected model/designer was awarded a scholarship towards their tuition from Relative Space.
Delicious drinks were poured by renowned mixologist Jim Meehan, owner of Manhattan speakeasy Please Don't Tell, and paired with custom grilled cheese soldiers by Birch Coffee, also in Manhattan, located at the Gershwin Hotel.
